History of the Practice

Practicing in Hawaii for 45 years, Dr. Kaufman has lived on Maui since 1984.
Kula is in what is known as Upcountry Maui, with elevations ranging from 1800 to 3000+ feet. Small town feel with Mom and Pop stores that cater to locals and tourists alike. An amiable climate on the green mountainside of Haleakala. Clients are a delightful mix of ethnicities with many local families and newcomers as well.

What makes this practice special/Major selling points

The practice owner is the sole employee. Clinic is open 3 days a week from 10 to 4. There are emergency services available in Central Maui (20-30 minutes away). The practice operates from the downstairs of a 2 story home using approx 550 sq ft in two rooms plus 1 bathroom. The carport (approx 500 sq ft) is used as the receiving area. The client sits while the pet relaxes and the initial and sometimes the entire exam and treatment are done outside. The upstairs is a 3 bdrm 1 bath. Lease of the practice downstairs or the practice and the upstairs is possible. Future purchase of the property is also a possibility. There are approximately 10,000 contacts in the client data base and new clients are routinely asking for services beyond the 15 hours/week of client contact time currently devoted to the practice.

What might the next owner need to improve in this practice?

Expanded hours and longer days would quickly be reflected with increased gross. Investment in equipment would further expand services available. This is a medical practice with most surgery referred. While >90% small animal there are opportunities to provide services for tortoises/chameleons/chickens/miniature pigs/goats/sheep and axis deer. Current owner has experience with chemical immobilization and darting equipment which was once a major part of the practice but currently is rarely put to use.
